Care Instructions

Dry Pailing

We recommend dry pailing for the easiest management of your cloth nappying system. This means that nappies are placed straight in the dry nappy bucket (after disposing of any solid matter in an appropriate manner) without the addition of any bleaches or sanitising agents. Use of these agents may affect the longevity of the elastic in your Bubba J products, and can be harmful to sensitive skins.

Warm Machine Wash

When your nappy bucket is full simply place the contents in your washing machine and wash as per your usual method. We choose to run a prewash rinse cycle followed by a normal wash cycle, and only use a half of the recommended detergent amount. We also recommend line drying whenever possible as the sun will aid in naturally bleaching and sanitising your nappies.

Bubba J Hemp & Bamboo Nappies and Inserts

Your hemp nappy will become more absorbent with continued use, and is a wonderfully breathable fabric – great for sensitive skin.

It is advisable to prewash your hemp nappy at least once, and up to three times if you have the patience!
Bamboo requires less prewashing to reach maximum absorbancy.

Hemp and bamboo prefer a warm wash with just a touch of your normal washing powder. These nappies are not all-in-ones and will require a cover.

If your nappy has a print layer please hang dry with the non-print layer facing outwards to help minimise any fading that will occur with use.

Bubba J Pocket Nappies

Bubba J pocket nappies are made up of an outer of polyurethane laminate, with a suedecloth inner to wick moisture away from baby.

These nappies are designed to be stuffed with absorbent material and do not require an additional cover or liner.

Pocket nappies should be cold/warm washed and line dried where possible. If it is necessary to tumble dry be sure to do so on the lowest heat setting to avoid damage to the PUL.

Bubba J Wool Covers

Bubba J wool covers are manufactured from high quality 97% wool/3% spandex fabric. Wool makes a fantastic nappy cover as it actually neutralises urine and has water repelling qualities. It is a breathable fabric and makes a particularly good night nappy cover. Wool covers need to be lanolised prior to use – instructions as follows.

To get the most from your wool cover, we suggest a warm handwash (or very gentle machine wash if your machine has this function) using wool wash. Following the wash prepare a sink with some very hot water, and put in some lanolin such as Lansinoh (about the size of a pea). Wait for this to disperse, then add enough cold water that the overall temperature is just warm. Place your cover in the water and allow to soak for at least 20 minutes. After this time remove your cover but do not rinse. Remove excess water by rolling in a towel, then hang your cover to dry in the shade.

Bubba J PUL Covers

Bubba J PUL covers are manufactured from polyester knit fabric with a barrier layer of polyurethane laminate applied to one side for moisture containment.

Covers can be wiped down with a damp cloth if necessary, and reused at a nappy change.

When your cover needs washing just pop it in with your nappies to be washed and line dry if possible. Most PUL should not be machine dried, but due to the nature of the fabric they will dry very quickly if hung inside.
